Outstretched:

We sit in utter silence we refuse to comment
not offering our sacred opinion
for we are just watching
reaped and plundered
stolen and destroyed
slowly but surely we are few
many eons ago
there but many of us
shrouding the lands
covering the masses
tall we and mighty we but were
and all to us they came
first in worship
then in admiration
something changed and we were no more
cut and hacked
torn asunder
as they came night and day
to clear us away
now they bring but small offerings
that they say will grow once again
but all the while
we sit here and weep
for the fallen
that stood no chance
the air is thinning
and is tainted by many a chemical
as mans greed consumes us so
and in all this
in all the time we have surely grown
we have only ever been to you
outstretched
your poisoness air we did filter
and your light we did capture
we watched as you took shelter under us
as the heavens fell
and as lovers huddled and cuddled
but now protection is gone
and few we are
and all we do is wonder
how long before
we are all nothing more
then a memory....
